New Naming for Dyneema® Fabrics — And What It Means for Bonfus

For ultralight gear enthusiasts and industry insiders alike, the name Dyneema® instantly evokes strength, innovation, and minimal weight. At Bonfus, we’ve relied on Dyneema® Composite Fabrics to craft some of the world’s lightest and most durable backpacks and shelters. Now, Dyneema® is entering a new chapter — and we’re excited to bring you along.

In May 2025, Dyneema® (Avient Corporation) introduced a new naming standard for its composite fabric portfolio, aiming to improve clarity and consistency across its advanced fabrics used by an increasing number of businesses worldwide.

Why Is Dyneema® Changing Its Naming System?

The new naming standard is designed to:

  • Simplify how fabrics are described and referenced across industries
  • Enable easier product comparisons and material sourcing
  • Reflect the specific construction and technical specifications of each fabric
  • Emphasize Dyneema’s push toward renewable materials and lower carbon footprints

This change will improve transparency and help both brands and customers better understand the materials used in high-performance gear.

Alignment with Sustainability

As shared in Dyneema’s Eco Profile Report – May 2025:

  • Dyneema® from bio-circular feedstocks emits 1.1 kg CO₂e per kg — an 80% reduction vs. virgin-oil feedstock
  • All Dyneema® production now runs on 100% renewable energy
  • Zero-waste sites and closed-loop fiber recycling are already underway

What Customers Will See on Bonfus.com

To ease the transition, we will:

  • Reference both legacy and new names during 2025
  • Use the new naming (like 0.96 Dyneema® Composite Fabric) as the primary descriptor by late 2025
  • Include technical SKUs in spec tables (CT codes) for transparency
